TRANSPARENT SOURCING

Sources & Methodology

Jersey Mosquito combines official New Jersey mosquito resources, Rutgers entomology information, weather data and field-informed homeowner guidance.

OUR RULE

Public-health claims come from public-health sources. Species claims come from entomology sources. The risk index is labeled as an estimate—not official surveillance.

NEWSROOM METHODOLOGY

Daily discovery from a fixed New Jersey source whitelist.

The NJ Mosquito Newsroom checks state agencies, Rutgers and selected county mosquito-control pages once per day. It stores source URLs and fingerprints to prevent duplicates, creates an original Jersey Mosquito source brief instead of copying source articles, and routes sensitive human-health items to draft review.

RISK INDEX METHODOLOGY

Useful context, clearly labeled.

The risk score starts with a monthly New Jersey seasonal baseline and adjusts it using current National Weather Service temperature, humidity and precipitation-probability data near central New Jersey. It estimates general backyard mosquito pressure only. It does not ingest mosquito trap counts, pathogen testing or individual county surveillance, so it must not be interpreted as a disease-risk score.
